Tyler, The Creator recently responded to backlash from Taylor Swift’s fanbase, known as “Swifties,” accusing them of racist behavior after they resurfaced some of his controversial past lyrics.

Tyler’s reaction came during his Halloween concert in Boston, where he addressed the criticism over explicit lyrics in his older songs referencing Swift.

The renewed outrage revolves around lyrics from Tyler’s 2011 song “Fish” from his Goblin album, where he raps, “Tyler swiftly slips his d*** inside of Taylor Swift’s sl**/Round trip in that py, here comes the ticket!”

In response to the criticism, he voiced his frustration directly, saying, “I got Swifties all mad at me with their racist a bringing up old lyrics, bruh go listen to Tron Cat again, I don’t give a f***.”

He continued, “What the f**k b*tch? They gonna bring out the old me.”

Past controversies and censorship

Tyler’s edgy lyrics have often stirred controversy over his career. In 2015, he was temporarily banned from entering the UK due to content in his music that authorities deemed inappropriate.

The UK Home Office cited specific lyrics from tracks like “Tron Cat,” “VCR,” “Blow,” “Sarah,” and “French,” explaining that his lyrics could “foster hatred” and pose a “public order” risk.

They specifically mentioned content from Tyler’s early albums, including Bastard and Goblin, as glamorizing violence and abusive behavior, leading to the ban, which was only lifted after then-Home Secretary Theresa May resigned.

Reflecting on the incident, Tyler told The Guardian, “I got treated like a terrorist… like I was a murderer.”

Despite these incidents, Tyler has continued to rise in the music industry, evolving his style and musical themes.

His recent album, Chromakopia, was released just days after its announcement, with an album concert that surprised fans in Boston on Halloween. His blend of introspection with raw, edgy themes has kept his loyal fanbase engaged while attracting new listeners.

Rivalry with Swift’s fanbase and the impact on His career

Tyler’s recent clash with Swifties also came amid a brief moment of chart rivalry, as he and Swift were both vying for the top position on Spotify’s Global Top Artists chart.

Tyler’s success with Chromakopia saw him momentarily overtake Swift on the charts, which may have amplified the attention from Swift’s fans and escalated the criticism against him.

Tyler is now gearing up for an extensive world tour to promote the album, kicking off in Minnesota in February, with plans to travel across North America, the UK, and Europe.

Tyler’s response to the backlash highlights how the music industry is increasingly shaped by fan reactions, where past work can resurface to challenge current successes.

However, with a dedicated following and a growing legacy, Tyler, The Creator continues to redefine his career while navigating controversies that stem from his earlier music.
